| was six years old. Growing up at Flemington Speedway was the greatest experience he has ever had. He knew then that one day he would drive a race car at Flemington Speedway. That dream came true on Memorial Day weekend in 1995. Vernon entered his first stock car Enduro race. With a field of 154 cars, he finished the entire 100 laps and came home in 36th spot. He continued racing in the Enduro Series and also competed in the NASCAR Street Stock Series up until Flemington Speedway's final year of competition in 2001. From there Vernon continued racing in the Enduro Series at race tracks such as Mahoning Valley Speedway, Mountain Speedway, and Bridgeport Speedway. It wasn't until 2005 when he found a new home at Wall Twsp. Speedway competing in the new Factory Stock Division where he posted 3 wins - 8 top 3's, and 15 top 5's earning him 2nd place in the Overall Championship Point Standings in his first year of competition at Wall. In 2006, Vernon posted another 3 feature wins, but had a couple too many set backs resulting in a seventh place finish in the final point standings. When 2007 came along, Vernon was more determined than ever to show Wall Twsp Speedway fans that the McLaughlin Motorsports Team was going to be stronger than ever, and that is exactly what Vernon McLaughlin III did. Posting five feature wins, 12 top 3's, 18 top 5's, and won the 2007 Wall Twsp Speedway Factory Stock Championship. Other 2007 accomplishments were two sets of back to back wins at Wall. In 2006, Vernon won the last feature race of the season, and then came back in 2007 and won the opening night feature race. Then on July 14th, and July 21, 2007 came his second set of back to back wins. The very next week after on July 29th, Vernon competed in the NEETS 100 lap Enduro race and dominated that race posting his first feature win at Mahoning Valley Speedway. Vernon was determined to back up a very successful 2007 racing season at Wall Twsp Speedway with another one in 2008, and had even bigger plans for the McLaughlin Motorsports Team at Wall. That all came to an end when Wall Twsp Speedway decided to close its doors and shut down racing events at the speedway. That forced Vernon to make some difficult decisions on where to bring his race team next. With a few different options Vernon decided to completely convert his racing operation from asphalt to dirt and bring his McLaughlin Motorsports Team to New Egypt Speedway to compete in their Outlaw Stock Division which are cars that look similar to Wall's Factory Stock Cars. Just about all of Vernon's racing experience is on the asphalt. This year will mark the first full season of Vernon's dirt racing operation and you can find out all of the McLaughlin Motorsports racing results and reports on the race report page. Vernon welcomes all race fans to come and see all the action at New Egypt Speedway then come back and tell us what you thought of the race on our Fan Club page in the Fan Forum. |
